There are as many different definitions for gender as there are people, it seems, and our monthly TQI night is the perfect venue for discussion.

Let's begin by sharing our knowledge of gender norms and stereotypes, from the modern to the ancient and US to worldwide. How do we internalize these stereotypes, in efforts to find external and/or self validation, and what impact does this have on our mental and physical health? How does one distinguish between the impetus to perform gender as prescribed by society and the need to physically express internally driven desires to reflect one's authentic self? How do we even separate the two when society would have us believe that sex and gender are the same and anything that confronts this is either invalid or perverse? Let us also examine these issues and our experiences from both the nonbinary and binary perspectives, as our group is comprised of both.

While the performance of gender is not necessarily a negative thing, especially when done for reasons that originate within ourselves and in pursuit of our own personal gratification, choosing to do so at the expense of something you would rather do or be is entirely counterproductive. How do you find balance between loving yourself as you are and the natural human desire to make your body fit some personal or societal ideal? What methods of self care have you employed in these efforts?
